SPACE + ART

At this point, it is very clear that science and art in fact do mend and each of them helps with the other. I knew that this week’s lesson of “ Space + Art” would make a lot of sense. As Professor Vesna says, space and art really do involve a lot of what we learned in this class, such as robotics, nanotech, math, and many more subjects !

Both of these videos are a reminder to me that space, itself, is a reminder of how small we are individually compared to the universe. Going from having the ability to see multiple galaxies at once that look like dust to seeing teeny tiny electrons is quite fascinating but also scary to think about !

This week’s lesson also included the talk of robotics. Early in the year, we discussed this and it has come back for the talk of space. Robotics + Space exists because that is our way to explore space. Without the creation of robotic machinery, we wouldn't know about space to the existent in which we do. The mending of robotics and space is completely critical to the exploration of space.

Art plays an important role for the way in which we view and think of space from down here on earth. Movies like Wall•e, Star-Trek and even Star Wars are examples of this. For me, after watching wall•e, I viewed space completely different. It became a place a wanted to visit because of how it is portrayed in the movies. Many of the students in my previous classes who watched these movies now either want to major in art or science. I believe that in producing movies that put together art and science, it motivates and inspires people to want to become apart of that world. It stimulates creativity and innovative ways of thinking.

  1. Hi Sharon, I especially enjoyed your blog because you focused largely on space movies like Wall-E and Star Wars. Both movies are some of my favorites and I think by making art that involves space travel, movie producers influence many children to dream about space travel and/or technological advancements.
